Rosewood Castiglion Del Bosco

Taste Tuscany straight from the barrel

What it is

A 16th-century Tuscan village turned intimate resort in Brunello country.

What it isn't

A base for exploring Tuscany. This is intended as a destination resort.

What we think

Opening for the season March 29th!

Massimo and Chiara Ferragamo founded this 5,000-acre estate in the heart of the UNESCO-protected Val d’Orcia Natural Park and Brunello di Montalcino region and turned it into a hotel-and-villa resort. Now managed by Rosewood, it’s at once dazzlingly luxurious and authentically Tuscan, and an excellent choice for wine lovers in particular. The refined yet discrete style is evident throughout the 23 suites and 11 fully equipped villas, with herringbone-patterned parquet floors, four-poster beds, upholstered headboards and striped rugs. Evidence of a painstaking design process emerge throughout—in the suede-lined walk-in closets, the cashmere throws and beaded linen coverlets, the precise lighting in the oversized walk-in showers. The rooms are arrayed around the cobblestone streets of a medieval village, a setup that—along with the warm service—add to the residential feel. This is a full-service property, with a cooking school, organic kitchen garden, two excellent restaurants, a pampering spa, an array of adults and children programs and an 18-hole private golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf. Oh, and did we mention the wine? Castiglion del Bosco is one of the region’s largest producers of Brunello, and offers a variety of tours and tastings.
