Nairobi, Kenya
Tribe Hotel
Stylish and Serene
What it is
A 128-room respite in the buzzing capital of Kenya, with a locavore restaurant, 10,000-square-foot spa, 24-hour gym, and topnotch service.
What it isn't
Unfortunate looking. This is a member of the illustrious Design Hotels, and it shows, with modern yet regionally inspired interiors and sleek architecture.
What we think
Luxury is spelled with a capital L at Tribe Hotel, where each and every room gives the instant impression of sumptuousness thanks to unexpected architecture (curved walls here, LED-lit ceilings there). Even the “starter” room category, the aptly named Superior, is fitted with cloud soft 300 thread count sheets, a rainfall showerhead, LED smart TV, and local art within its tidy 320 square foot floor plan. We love the 500 square foot Junior Suites for their sitting area, and the splurge-worthy 700-square-foot Ambassadorial Suite, which is fitted with a deep soaking tub, original art and a full living room. While you’re here, ask staff to direct you to your neighbor the Village Market—where you can meander some 150 shops set up around waterfalls, rivers and lush gardens.
You're here because
You’ve been reading about the hotel’s multi-award-winning spa for years, and have decided that it’s time to see what the fuss is about with a coffee detox body polish and massage known as Kenya Gold.
The Moment
Your jaw drops as you enter Jiko Restaurant: it looks more like a botanical garden, thanks to verdant plants dangling from the ceiling. But you find it’s the regionally inspired menu that sets new standards in “fresh” with dishes like tandoori lobster and shiro-fried plantains with pumpkin leaf puree. Out of Africa, indeed.
Restaurants & Bars
Jiko Restaurant - Inspired by African cuisine, is a tribute to local farmers; paying homage to crisp flavors and fresh, organic ingredients.
Location
The thronged heart of the Gigiri district in central Nairobi, directly adjacent to the Village Market and just a 37 minute drive from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
