Six Senses Qing Cheng Mountain
Alpine Wonderland
What it is
With architecture inspired by local villages, this serene mountain retreat is beloved for its enormous guest rooms, 7 indelible restaurants, and an 18,000 square foot spa.
What it isn't
Poorly serviced. All guests are pampered like VIPs with everything from loaner bikes to Tesla car transfers. There’s even a Garden Theater for movie nights.
What we think
This lush pocket of China is a bucket list destination thanks to Dujiangyan, a UNESCO World Heritage & Natural Cultural site. But if you opt to simply stay in your room, we wouldn’t blame you. Guest room options echo the surrounding architectural vernacular with their soaring blonde wood ceilings, airy layouts, and dreamy canopy beds, but are chockablock with luxuries, including rain showers and soaking tubs that peer out into the verdant jungle landscape. Starting rooms begin at a generous 850 square feet; for even more room to roam, we love the 1,453 square foot Six Senses Hot Spring Suite—it’s tucked in a bamboo woodland and has its own private al fresco hot tub just off the courtyard. While you’re here, be sure to stop in at Six Senses Camping—a barbecue joint where you can indulge in grilled squid, wagyu and tiger prawns under the stars.
You're here because
Staffers have planned a dizzying array of adventures, whether you want to watch giant panda feedings in Chengdu or pick black tea leaf tips in the foothills with a local tea master.
The Moment
You’ve had your share of blissful spa days, but none quite so delightful as this: in the shade of the willow trees, after an expert-led session of tai chi. Your treatment today, too, is pure China….a bamboo stick massage and local ginkgo wrap.
