Ubud, Bali
Amandari
Pure Bali
What it is
A sumptuous hideaway inspired by local thatch-roofed village houses, overlooking rice terraces.
What it isn't
Schlocky or business-y. Aman doesn’t do clichés.
What we think
There are no “basic” rooms here—guests choose from either suites or villas, each more exquisite than the last—which confirms what Aman purists have always known about the brand’s doting sensibility. This particular property was built upon sacred ground, overlooking a 7th-century Hindu shrine, and the vibe is appropriately hallowed. That’s especially true in the spa, where treatments include black rice exfoliation and volcanic clay wraps. Don’t miss the guided tour of Taman Burung Bali Bird Park, which some 250 species of fowl (and infamous Komodo dragons, which can grow up to 9 feet long) call home.
You're here because
In a region of stunning hotels, this is perhaps the most picturesque of all—with lily ponds and frangipani tree-ringed infinity pools.
The Moment
On vacation, you’ve replaced your typical power lunch with a sorely needed peace lunch: a picnic of smoked duck and fire-charred prawns set over the rice terraces, to the tune of chirping birds.
