Capella Ubud, Bali
Putting the Glam in Glamping
What it is
Touted as the best hotel in the world: this 22-tent resort and lodge in a thick tropical jungle, with an organic Indonesia-inspired spa.
What it isn't
Hungry. There are five restaurant options here—ranging from the tent-topped open dining room at Mads Lange (order the Korean fried chicken with apple kimchi) to Campfire, where you can sip cocktails as black-and-white movies roll behind a flickering blaze.
What we think
Bangkok and Bali-based starchitect Bill Bensley knows good hotel design, having designed some 200 properties, including St. Kitt’s Belle Mont Farm and The Siam. But even he outdid himself when he dreamt up Capella Ubud: it’s a paradise sprung to resplendent life. Each of the tented “rooms” here feels as special as a honeymoon suite, and is equipped with a private plunge pool, daybed and al fresco dining room, plus elaborate (yet tasteful) interiors that may include everything from hammered copper soaking tubs to canopied beds. What we love most, though, and what’s won this resort the accolade “World’s Best” again and again, are the thoroughly over-the-top guest services. You will be pampered at every turn here, whether you want to have a gratis photoshoot, get your laundry done, or enlist one of their Capella Culturist concierges to plan an afternoon of unforgettable exploits.
You're here because
You’re in desperate need of a reset, and the spa promises to restore your world-weary body and soul (don’t miss the Balinese herbal body wrap and scalp massage).
The Moment
In the lantern light at the poolside Mortar & Pestle Bar, everything looks like magic. Or is that your Bird Watchers cocktail, with spiced gin, lychee and kafir lime leaf, talking?
Restaurants & Bars
Mads Lange - Seasonal, locally-farmed dishes influenced by the historical spice trail
Api Jiwa - Asian bbq

Location
Deep in the fragrant forests along Bali’s Wos River. A six minute drive away: the Instagram famous Tegallalang Rice Terrace, where impossibly green paddies have more than earned their 30,000 five star Google reviews.
