Grand Hyatt Tokyo

Sky-High Splendor

What it is

A 387-room tower that’s Luxe with a capital L, including ginormous rooms, 7 restaurants and three cocktail bars, and a luminous spa with multiple plunge pools.

What it isn't

Poorly serviced. Need a limousine to the airport? Check. A translator or interpreter? はい (that’s Japanese for Yes). Plus valet parking, a concierge, 24-hour room service, etc.

What we think

No wonder this is the “Grand” Hyatt...there’s a pampering feeling at every turn. Take the guest rooms, where clean-lined mahogany furniture by B&B Italia, Frette Egyptian cotton linens, Balmain toiletries, Nespresso machines, rain showers and limestone-sheathed bathrooms that emit an aura of opulence instantly. We love the King Bed Deluxe Room for its cavernous soaking tub that fills to the brim in five minutes. And the 20th floor Diplomat Suite, with its prime overlook of Tokyo Tower and 1,078-square-feet of breathing room (including two bathrooms and a giant living room). The best part of staying here, though, may be the many worlds you can explore right on the premises—a boon when you’re zonked from your flights—including everything from an outpost of Argentina’s Fueguia 1833 Fragrance House to a cigar club.

You're here because

One of the most lauded steakhouses in Tokyo is here, the Oak Door, where dishes include a Tomahawk of Japanese Wagyu beef (rare, and we mean that literally).

The Moment

Perhaps the only thing better than a sumptuous afternoon tea is a grab-and-go version you can enjoy in your leisurewear (shh). Tokyo locals beeline to Fiorentina Pastry Boutique for the pleasure; be sure to request white chocolate cookies filled with sweet bean paste and emblazoned with artist Takashi Murakami’s happy flower...so cute it should be an emoji.
