Peaceful Retreat

What it is

A serene 94-room stunner with a private onsen (geothermal hot spring), holistic spa, four bars and restaurants and a prime overlook of Lake Chuzenji.

What it isn't

Just for grownups. The Ritz Kids program honors wee ones as lauded guests, with exploits like a gratis monkey treasure hunt and a Ritz Kids Safari you can have set up in your room (complete with a canvas tent).

What we think

The translated meaning of Lake Chuzenji is “Sea of Happiness”...and no wonder, with this ultra-luxe Ritz-Carlton presiding over its lapping shores. Every guest room here is sure to delight, thanks to included engawa (private porches), enormous floor plans—starting at 614 square feet—and sumptuous touches, such as rain showers, separate tubs, floor-to-ceiling windows, and toiletries by Diptyque. To sprawl out even further, we love the 1,238 square foot Lake Chuzenji View Suite, with its roomy separate living room and jaw dropping panorama over Lake Chuzenji from every room (including the spa-like bathroom). Don’t miss stopping in at The Bar for unforgettable Japanese whiskeys and entrancing cocktails like the Altitude (barley, rice, orange and wasabi).

You're here because

They’ve thought of every courtesy for guests, including twice daily housekeeping and yukata robes you can throw on to raid your minibar.

The Moment

You felt relaxed the minute you arrived here, but you still couldn’t help indulging in the spa. After steeping in the private onsen and ESPA facial, you’re glowing from within…and out.

Restaurants & Bars

The Japanese Restaurant - Three classic favorites of Japanese cuisine—sushi, multicourse kaiseki, and teppanyaki grilled feasts—are showcased here. Enjoy Japanese breakfasts and à la carte selections as well.

Lakehouse - Glistening lake views enhance the serene setting of the Lakehouse, where locally harvested produce stars in Western-style dishes inspired by holidays spent at a beloved countryside home.

The Bar - Fine whiskies from Japan and across the world feature along with original cocktails that are chilled with natural highland ice harvested at Nikko’s own Tokujiro Ice Farm.

The Lobby Lounge - Offers views of our garden with Lake Chuzenji and the mountains beyond. Enjoy light meals, drinks, and Afternoon Tea in this warm and inviting space surrounded by artworks and books.

Location

Within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Nikko, right on the shores of Lake Chuzenji. It’s also within a seven minute walk of 318-foot Kegon Falls, a misty must.
