Paradise Island, Bahamas

The Ocean Club, Bahamas

A Four Seasons Resort

What it is

An elegant and classic colonial estate on pristine Bahamian white sands. Formerly a One&Only, it is now run by Four Seasons.

What it isn't

A contemporary mega resort with loads of family fun options.

What we think

The grand colonial mansion was once the private estate of A&P heir Huntington Hartford II. The sprawling grounds cover almost 45 coconut palm-dotted acres on the north shore of Paradise Island. The common spaces are images of southern plantation elegance: huge airy rooms with intricate chandeliers, French doors topped by half moon windows, dark carved antiques, fresh tropical flowers. Up the curved staircase of the main building and scattered throughout stand-alone buildings, the 100 or so rooms and suites are equally decadent, but they have a bit more of a contemporary personality than the plantation styling found in the lobby. Streamlined dark wood furniture pops against the white walls and polished teak flooring, striped textiles lend splashes of rusty orange or navy blue. The rooms open to views of the turquoise water and the hotel’s private white sand beach. Private butlers are on hand 24/7 to attend to any request. The stretch of white sand is movie set perfect: indeed, part of Casino Royale was filmed here. Guests can choose to lay out here and wave a flag for service of head the the pool. The main pool is set in the Versaille Gardens. They’re as opulent as possible: lush tropical plants surround the sparkling pool, Italian marble statues dot the area, the lawns are perfectly manicured, a terraced slope leads up to the restored 14th century Augustinian cloister that was shipped piece by piece from France. The hotel’s main restaurant, Dune, is helmed by renowned Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and positioned so guests at every meal have uninterrupted views of Cabbage beach. The cuisine blends French and Asian techniques, amplified by local herbs and Bahamian influences.

You're here because

You want privacy that doesn’t come in huge resorts. A short car ride from the airport and you’re on a stretch of private tropical beach in a grand manor.

The Moment

The perfectly white sand is soft under foot, the light breeze carries the heady scent of tropical flowers and salt water. As you turn from the beach to head back to your room before dinner, you catch sight of one of the butlers walking towards you to carry your beach tote.
