Fairmont Royal Pavilion
Star of the Sea
What it is
A newly-renovated, pampering 72-room hideaway set directly on the pink sands of Barbados’ Platinum Coast.
What it isn't
On “Island Time.” Service is truly excellent here (no surprise, for a Fairmont), with everything from a nonplussed concierge to medical services at-the-ready for a seamless stay.
What we think
When Fairmont hired Bajan artists like Sheena Rose and Llanor Alleyne to imbue this property with regional flair, they created a stay like no other. For one thing, unlike other options here, the Royal Pavilion is thoroughly of its place; rooms are mutedly colorful without being cloying or themey, thanks to buttoned-up neutrals and occasional beachy blue and white stripes. There are no bad rooms here—every single one has a view of the screen saver-ready sea beyond, plus top notch amenities: gratis breakfasts at their al fresco oceanfront restaurant, a flotilla of loaner non-motorized watersports, and even an afternoon tea credit (bring on the clotted cream!) to enjoy once a week during your stay. Did we mention the activities list on-site includes a catamaran cruise and swimming with sea turtles? If you’re like us, you’ll never want to leave.
You're here because
Unlike a lot of Caribbean hotels, Fairmont puts family first, from no-charge crib and cot rentals to free kids meals and certified babysitters at-the-ready.
By the time you park yourself at Taboras Restaurant at a table overlooking the cyan sea, you’re thoroughly exhausted from a day in the sun—starting with yoga on the pink sand. But then the waiter brings a plate of Bajan fishcakes, and you start to perk up. By the time you’ve finished your lobster risotto with lemon herb panko bread crumbs, you’re ready for another nutmeg-topped rum punch–and to dance the night away as the stars wink at you from above.
