Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Tortuga Bay
Privacy and luxury at their finest
What it is
Designed by the late Oscar de la Renta, this collection of waterfront villas is an exclusive resort within the larger Puntacana Resort and Club.
What it isn't
While a lot of Puntacana resorts are known for their discos and beach parties, this one has a relaxed, sophisticated vibe.
What we think
Tortuga Bay is a testament to one of the late Oscar de la Renta’s global loves, the Dominican Republic. The hotel was renovated in 2017 and now the sunny yellow villas, 13 in all, have simple, elegantly light and breezy interiors and huge French doors that open up to Caribbean waters and palm tree-dotted sands. The one- to three-bedroom plantation-style houses are decorated in natural materials (native mahogany wood, wicker and rattan) as well as Frette-clad four-poster beds and coral stone bathrooms. Down a sandy path, guests will also find de la Renta’s first resort boutique, filled with elegant beach wraps and breezy dresses. Travelers also have access to the rest of the 23-square-mile Puntacana Resort and Club, including its equestrian center, freshwater lagoons, 45 holes of waterfront golf and the Six Senses Spa, where eight treatment rooms are individually designed with deep soaking tubs and pillow-loaded couches that invite you to linger—even when you’re stomach-down on the massage table, you gaze into a bowl of bougainvillea. It's worth mentioning that the resort also has added a new reception to the airport to accommodate early arrivals and departures, so guests can begin to or extend their time enjoying the resort’s seclusion and service from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave.
You're here because
You want to stay in an ultra private resort, a Puntacana original that also has access to larger campus of restaurants and activities.
The Moment
After a proper kneading by one of the Thai or Indonesian masseuses at Six Senses, you head to the spa’s poolside table, a stone’s throw from the ocean, for a healthy lunch of crab and local grouper ceviche topped with avocado and passion fruit.
