In the late 1950's, Laurence Rockefeller turned this 50-acre coconut plantation on the north shore of Puerto Rico into the quintessence of a glamorous Caribbean resort. Amelia Earhart would fly her plane down for a visit; Joan Crawford had her room painted pink pre-arrival. Chef José Andrés runs the food and beverage program; golf legend Chi-Chi Rodriguez is the resident pro; and the indoor-outdoor spa is massive and stunning. It's enough pampering to make you feel like Cleopatra (yes, Liz Taylor was a regular) or like Beyoncé and Jay-Z, who recently rented the resort's exquisite private villa.
