San Ignacio, Belize
Adventure, with a side of organic splendor
What it is
An ultra-luxe hideaway in lush Belize rainforest.
What it isn't
An overly manicured to resemble a “this could be anywhere” resort.
What we think
What surprises us most about Ka’ana isn’t the guided activities list, which includes things like horseback riding to ancient Mayan archeological sites, snorkeling alongside nurse sharks in a barrier reef and kayaking through two miles of underground caverns. It’s that you return home to the hotel for freshly-made ceviche and mango-glazed lamb shank, washed down with wines from the 1,000-bottle-deep wine cellar (Insignia Joseph Phelps bordeaux, anyone?). Ka’ana perfectly executes what so many resorts are trying: blending a real sense of place with luxury standards. It’s worth it to splurge on a villa for your own plunge pool after a day in the saddle.
You're here because
It’s a quick, direct flight from many major U.S. cities (including New York, L.A., Dallas, and Atlanta), yet feels like a different planet: lusher, richer, infinitely more vibrant.
Fans spin languidly in the resort’s Wallace Bar, ushering in the cool of the evening—a breeze that’s downright necessary, as you sip on a house-infused jalapeño, lime, and pineapple cocktail.
