Bajos del Toro, Costa Rica

El Silencio Lodge

Your Own Private Rainforest

What it is

Tucked within a misty and verdant 500-acre cloud forest, with modernist suites, a healing spa and activities galore.

What it isn't

Penny pinching. Here, plenty of perks are included, including your refreshing welcome beverage and your daily buffet breakfasts.

What we think

When you picture Costa Rican paradise, we’d wager you’re imagining a place just like this one—where every suite was hewn of local stone and wood, with canopied ceilings and floor to ceiling glass doors that overlook your private deck (complete with rocking chairs) and jacuzzi, and the lush evergreen rainforest beyond. If you’re traveling with the whole family, we recommend upgrading to the Two Bedroom Riverside Villa, which feels like it was lofted like a treehouse over the jungle and has two (!) whirlpool hot tubs, a kitchenette and a living room with its own fireplace. While you’re here, be sure to stop by the resort’s own 5,000 square foot organic greenhouse, which makes everything from your eggs to your herbs for the three on-site restaurants.

You're here because

You can’t be bothered to plan your vacations, much less your own life, and the resort has a curated list of activities that will cross off bucket list items you didn’t even know you had, including waterfall hikes and chocolate making sessions.

The Moment

One of your favorite (and totally free) activities here surprised you: planting a tree. You couldn’t remember the last time you had your hands in the dirt; and that this tree will entice Quetzal birds back to the area left you misty eyed.

Restaurants & Bars

Location

Secreted away in a UNESCO cultural heritage site in Bajos del Toro on a private 500-acre chunk of cloud forest. Nearby: Poas Volcano National Park, home to a jaw-droppingly turquoise geothermal lake.
