San Lorenzo, Panama
What it is
An all-inclusive private island with 8 beachfront casitas and a villa, plus an infinity pool and dock-to-dish restaurant.
What it isn't
Equipped with its own spa. But you can indulge in treatments like reiki massage wherever you like, from your casita to the open air.
What we think
The best part about an “all inclusive” like Isla Palenque is that the phrase actually means something here. Round trip boat transfers to the 400-acre private island? Included. All your meals (plus smoothies and coffee)? Included. Dance workshops and Rum 101? Included. Even their loaner paddle boards and kayaks are free to borrow to whirr around the island’s seven beaches. Each 650 square foot casita is sumptuously equipped with a king sized bed, al fresco soaking tub on the sand, a hammock, organic toiletries, and even a free-to-raid mini bar that’s curated with locally made juices and snacks. Bringing a crowd? Consider booking the Beachfront Villa Estate, which sleeps up to 14 guests and has both rainforest and sea views. And yes, before you ask, each room type has both air-conditioning and fans—the definition of a cool time.
You're here because
You’ve been wanting to take the kids on a beach vacay where they’ll actually learn something; the resort is basically a beachfront jungle ripe for exploring—with rainforest walks, boat journeys, an infinity pool for splash time and even kids menus.
You spent your entire morning on the soft sand beach, splayed out like a starfish…and you’re absolutely ravenous. Thankfully, the chef has prepared edible perfection in the form of fresh catch ceviche with crispy plantain and caramelized pineapple pork ribs.
Restaurants & Bars
Las Rocas Restaurant & Bar - beachfront dining offering Panamanian cuisine
The island is a 60 minute flight, 60 minute drive, and 15 minute boat ride from Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport…and the schlep is totally worth it. (Plus, hotel staff are happy to arrange the jaunt.)
