Kitzbühel, Austria
Hotel Kitzhof Mountain Design Resort
Mountain Magic
What it is
A classical alpine chalet near the slopes, with 160 cozy rooms, a 7500 square foot spa, and an iconic Laurent Perrier champagne breakfast buffet.
What it isn't
Hangry. The hotel has seven places for a nosh, including Kaminstube, where Chef Jürgen Bartl whips up regional dishes—like Tyrolean Wagyu beef, carved tableside—in a space with a flickering gas fire.
What we think
Fairytales do come true—if Hotel Kitzhof has anything to say about it, that is. Tucked within its fanciful gables, you’ll find a hotel that defines “hygge,” from the fluffy fur wrapped chairs to the blonde wood walls. You’ll feel indulgent even in the starter “Single” room category, thanks to the exposed box beam ceilings, plaid bed covers, and headboards reminiscent of an antique Tyrolean chair. (Amenities are luxe, too: including zippy free wifi, gratis soft drinks in the minibar, unlimited trips through the pool and sauna in the spa, and in-room robes and slippers as fluffy as the snow). To sprawl out a bit, consider the Suites; each has a terrace, deep freestanding soaking tub, walk-in wardrobe and so much more.
You're here because
The hotel is a member of Design Hotels, so every element, from the showerheads to the soup spoons, is bound to be photogenic.
The Moment
From the terrace at Weisser Hirsch restaurant, you can’t stop ogling the view: a panorama of mountain peaks all around you. But then your waiter brings a tarte tatin made with caramelized Tyrolean apples with pine nut ice cream, and your head turns. This is living.
