St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria
Hotel Tannenhof
Alpine Excellence
What it is
An ultra luxurious respite with indulgences galore, Gault Millau toque-awarded restaurants and a Gwyneth-worthy spa with an indoor pool.
What it isn't
Enormous. There are seven suites here, each one more warm and welcoming than the last, with soaking tubs, blonde woods and flickering fireplaces.
What we think
The problem with “all inclusive” is that it so rarely caters to those of us that seek out the best of the best (of the best). But if you’ve ever wanted to splurge on an all-in vacay in the jaw dropping ski town of St Anton Am Arlberg, this is IT, all caps. Included in your full-board stay? A private car service to ferry you from the Zurich airport and around the region for day trips; untrammeled use of the exquisite Tannenhof spa (yes, it’s equipped with both indoor and outdoor saunas); a la carte meals that look like they were prepared for Alain Ducasse himself (including 24-hour room service, afternoon tea, champagne at check-in…you get the idea). Basically, you’re royalty here. That they’ve also included your ski pass for Arlberg is practically a given.
You're here because
You love to feel at home on vacation, but only when you can have the peerless service you find at a hotel like this one, where every single detail is thought of and desire is met. Case in point: the property maintains a staff of 24, and there are just 16 maximum guests.
The Moment
You spent the day on the slopes, so a mountain-inspired massage in the spa—being rubbed down with the fruits of the forest, including sage, juniper berry, thyme and even moss—feels as fresh as skiing just-fallen powder.

Location
The foot of the slopes in St Anton Am Arlberg, a village high in the Tyrolean Alps that reportedly birthed the entire ski industry. (Better: it birthed après-ski ; the table-dancing here is legendary).
