Villa Dubrovnik

An intimate cliffside boutique on the Dalmatian coast

What it is

A romantic and stylish retreat hugging the rugged cliffs of Dubrovnik.

What it isn't

A place to bring the kids, while they will be accommodated, but this place is peaceful and quiet.

What we think

Terraced up the middle of a sheer cliff face that plunges directly into the sea, the boutique overlooks the cobalt waters of the Adriatic and the clustered, white stucco and terracotta buildings of Old City in Sveti Jakob. The property is blissfully away from the narrow main road; in place of the noise from the street there’s a calm emanating from the much-loved herb garden and nook-filled paths where blooming hibiscus, bright fuchsia bougainvillea, citrus and olive trees thrive. Reached from the main road by a glass elevator, the 56 rooms (including seven suites and two stand alone villas,) are the sleek yet residential product of a local Croatian design duo. All of the rooms have private entrances, teak terraces that look out across the sea to the pine-covered island of Lokrum; they have floor to ceiling windows, heated plank floors and complimenting navy and beige designer furniture. Suites have sport an in-room Jacuzzi, while deluxe suites have Jacuzzis on their sprawling terraces that face the medieval walled city across the bay. Up on the rooftop, Prosciutto & Wine Bar is rightly the popular place for local wines and cocktails at sunset. On the almost lowest level sits the hotel’s Restaurant Pjerin. This is where the indulgent and cooked to order complimentary breakfast is served and where guests can dine on high-end Mediterranean at dinner. On the lowest level, where the property falls off into the sea, is a sunbathing platform where, fresh from the spa, guests can order a cocktail and bask in the sun.

You're here because

There are oh so many beachside resorts and classic city escapes; in looking for a romantic retreat, you want something new and something different.

The Moment

The breeze carries the scent of the surrounding jasmine and lemon trees up to the rooftop. Over tapas and a local full-bodied Plavac Mali red, you look west to the medieval city. Stone walls surround the terracotta-roofed buildings, the many spires and turrets of the churches jut into the sky, epic and majestic.

Restaurants & Bars

Restaurant Pjerin -The hotel's main dining restaurant overlooking the cliffs over the Adriatic, providing views of the Old City serving fine Mediterranean cuisine

Prosciutto & Wine Bar - On the roof of the hotel, displaying panoramic views of the Adriatic and the Old City serving selection of cocktails, fine wines and a variety of prosciutto

Location

On the coast, it’s a 15 minute walk to Ploče Gate, the eastern entrance the Dubrovnik’s Old City, or the hotel runs a complimentary vaporetto speedboat back and forth throughout the day. It takes 8 minutes. The international airport is a 20 minute drive away.
