What it is

A cozy 54-room retreat owned by a ballet star, with a locavore restaurant, beloved cocktail bar, rooftop terrace and even a covered courtyard open year-round.

What it isn't

Boring. The hotel’s own curated experiences include canal rides on their 1964 mahogany boat and backstage tours of Copenhagen’s jaw-dropping 1874 opera house that include a costume tour that any prima donna would appreciate.

What we think

If you’ve ever wanted to feel like you live in Copenhagen, but have all the perks of an actual hotel, this is the spot. Guest rooms (designed by London firm Lind + Almond) have a throwback feel, thanks to Mid Century Danish-inspired furnishings and a sedate color palette of soft olive greens and mousy browns. Those traveling solo will be perfectly comfy in the 130-square-foot Single rooms, which took their cues from the snug berths of train sleeping cars—albeit with a separate bathroom with a walk-in shower and charmingly adorned shelves and walls. For more spacious digs, we love the 560 square foot One Bedroom Suite with its separate living room complete with a fireplace (request one with a street view for fascinating people watching). Whichever room you select, expect thoughtful touches like kimonos and slippers, loaner bikes, and even yoga sessions in your room upon request.

You're here because

The striped umbrella-shaded rooftop is an idyllic place to take in the cityscape with a cocktail in-hand.

The Moment

Of course you were prepared for haunting meals in Copenhagen, but you weren’t prepared for just how exquisite your own hotel’s restaurant would be. Perched by the fire, you wonder: should you indulge in oysters and gold caviar, Danish ribeye with truffles or baked garlic and rosemary camembert?! Who are you kidding…you’ll order all three.

Location

Downtown Copenhagen, a.k.a. Indre By…just a block from the Royal Danish Opera House and Kunsthal Charlottenborg contemporary art museum, housed in a 17th century palace.
