Hôtel de Berri

Arty Escape

What it is

A new 40 room (and 35-suite) jewel in the crown of the 8th arrondissement, with a private art collection that rivals its neighbor, the Louvre.

What it isn't

Same old, same old. The property may be owned by Marriott, but it’s as unexpected as can be, with maximalist Art Deco interiors.

What we think

You might expect the site of the former estate of Elsa Schiaparelli to be groundbreaking. She was, after all, the fashion designer who turned the heads of the world by creating the wrap dress (long before Diane Von Furstenberg) and partnering with none other than Salvador Dalí to squeeze Wallis Simpson into a lobster-printed dress that’s still being knocked off today. The hotel’s fitting over-the-top approach is a boon, even in Paris. Among the eye candy touches: Le Schiap restaurant, where frescoed walls look like something Ludwig Bemelmans would have drawn, and the Berri Suite, where red striped walls and mustard-hued velvet seating look like something Wes Anderson himself might dream up.

You're here because

You want to sleep in style (this is Paris, for chrissakes!) but you can’t forgo your luxe hotel amenities. This being a Marriott, you’ve got everything you could desire, from a Toto toilet to Apple TV to iPad command centers that control every light and drapery in the place.

The Moment

As sun sets over Paris, your dogs are barking and you can’t walk another minute. So you’re so delighted to find a window seat in the hotel’s Le Bizazz bar, where you can gingerly sip a coup of champagne overlooking birds flitting in the hotel’s nearly acre-large lush and leafy courtyard garden.

Restaurants & Bars

The Schiap - Authentic Italian cuisine with handpicked exceptional ingredients

The Bizazz - an inspiring menu of light snacks, coffees, and inventive signature cocktails served facing the private park

Location

On Rue de Berri in the 8th Arrondissement, just a five block walk from the Jardins de Champs-Elysees and five—in the opposite direction—from the Arc de Triomphe. In other words, in the beating heart of the city of love.
