A former cognac distillery on 5-acres, reborn as a delightful 92-room retreat that marries heritage with the high life: with a spa, two pools and Michelin starred restaurant.
Themey. Yes, this is an oenophile favorite with cognac-making roots, but it could also double as a backdrop for a Nancy Meyers movie. The design is gracious and light-filled.
If we could only use one word to describe this hotel, it would be “storybook.” Guest rooms here look plucked from the pages of a French fairy tale, thanks to their exposed beam ceilings, blonde wood floors, and elegant furniture that looks as if it was discovered in century-old nearby castles. Deluxe Rooms begin at a generous 301 square feet, and come with zippy free wifi and spa access. But our favorite spaces are the Junior Suites with Balconies: not only are they a whopping 528 square feet, but they’re equipped with vaulted ceilings and a private terrace that overlooks the rolling gardens—an ideal place for your morning cuppa or, yes, the region’s favorite tipple, cognac.
Despite the very grown up history, the hotel welcomes little ones with open arms—there’s a children’s program as well as babysitting services, should parental units need some “we time.”
Among the hotel’s restaurants and watering holes, Les Foundres is such a gem it dazzles—just like its Michelin star. Almost everything on your plate came from the surrounding region, from the Île de Ré potatoes to the caramelized celery jus. Edible heaven.
