The French Countryside

Les Prés d'Eugénie

Estate of Bliss

What it is

A pastoral 20-acre plot with five centuries-old buildings transformed into a pampering 45-room boutique hotel complete with a thermal spa and 3 Michelin-starred restaurant.

What it isn't

Letting itself go. The seven manicured gardens on the property include everything from vegetable and herb plantings to a boxwood garden Edward Scissorhands himself would delight in.

What we think

It’s not easy landing a Michelin star. Or finding yourself among the world’s most luxe and charming stays—all members of Relais & Châteaux. And yet Les Prés d´Eugénie has not only done just that (earning three Michelin stars way back in 1977 and membership in Relais & Châteaux in 1968), but it’s managed to become even more fabulous today. Your jaws will drop on repeat as a guest here. Take the traditionally appointed guest rooms in the main house, where even “starter” rooms come with private balconies, 24/7 room service, Bluetooth Tivoli sound systems, and toiletries from circa 1870 British perfumer Penhaligon. (Upgrade to a Royal Suite for a marble-lined bathroom, 19th century antiques and art, and a terrace overlooking the gardens). While you’re here, stop in at the thermal spa, whose subterranean waters have been soothing for millenia; the warm white mud bath and wrap with holly, sweet clover and cyprus are unmissable.

You're here because

The food alone is worth the journey, thanks to the Michelin 3-starred restaurant by Michel Guérard. Currently on the 10-course menu? Scallops and crayfish grilled in the fireplace with wild plum and seaweed.

The Moment

You haven’t heard “I’m bored” since you arrived at this estate, thanks to its nearly bottomless activities list. Shall you take a dip in the heated outdoor pool? Do yoga in the fitness cabin? Bike through surrounding forests using their loaner wheels? Here, France is your oyster.
