Hôtel du Louvre

Fresh-Faced France

What it is

A just revamped 164-room hideaway with all the trimmings globetrotters demand, including room service, a 24-hour gym, and gratis WiFi.

What it isn't

A place with a pool. But you’re not in Paris—land of croissants and brie de meaux—to get into your swimsuit anyway.

What we think

Your views in the Hotel du Louvre are almost as exquisite as they come in Paris, which is saying a lot. You might peep out on the 1861 Palais Garnier opera house—which is lit like a Mezzo-Soprano every night—or even the Louvre itself. But trust us, with rooms this airy and charming, you won’t be looking for excuses to stare elsewhere. The newly renovated spaces (starting at 320-square-feet) are fitted with rain showers in the marble lined bathrooms, sculptural velvet furniture and sheer draperies that catch the afternoon light. We loved the Lavazza coffee machines—ideal for a quick caffeine jolt before wandering to the local patisserie— and the Fragonard amenities, made in their Grasse, France factory since 1926.

You're here because

You’d never guess this was at all connected with an international chain. It feels like the love project of a French billionaire, and you’d move in if they let you.

The Moment

Paul Bocuse (1926-2018) was one of France’s first star chefs, but his recipes live on. Here, at Brasserie Bocuse, you can dine on his dishes just as he intended them on a terrace set under the arches of the Palais-Royal Square. Today, you lunch on his browned onion soup and Bresse chicken with cream and mushrooms. One bite in, you let out a little sigh. You’re coming back for dinner.
