Cap Estel

Exclusive seaside retreat

What it is

The epitome of the Riviera’s old world glamour

What it isn't

A Monte Carlo–style grand hotel.

What we think

Set on its own five-acre peninsula, Cap Estel is the ultimate in secluded Riviera-style romance—Greta Garbo stayed here, after all. Built in the 19th century by a Russian aristocrat, it still feels like a grand private residence, with most of its 18 rooms multi-bedroom suites occupying four separate buildings. Le Cap, the original main house, has a classical style, with marble floors and Louis XVI chairs. La Mer’s three rooms are carved into the rock at water’s edge and have a more streamlined look. Set higher up, La Corniche’s four contemporary apartments enjoy panoramic views, while Le Parc’s two suites hang over the sea and are bathed in Mediterranean blue tones. Despite the hotel’s small size, the amenities are outstanding. The spa offers a full range of treatments (notably, private gazebos are available for massages) as well as a private gym with personal trainers. In addition to the indoor pool, there is a heated seawater infinity pool and hot tub overlooking the sea. The property's private pebbled beach is accessed through the gardens. Reserved exclusively for guests, Michelin-starred La Table du Cap Estel’s simple decor and black-and-white tiled floor make a fine setting for Mediterranean fare that’s strictly seasonal and local (harvested right from the hotel’s garden, to be exact).

You're here because

You want movie-set romance with your Côte d’Azur stay: beautiful and very exclusive.

The Moment

You lay on the pool deck, sun hat shading your face and Aperol Spritz dangling from your fingers. You hear your name and languidly raise yourself up. The pool, sea and sky compete for title of richest shade of blue as your partner beckons from the infinity edge.

Restaurants & Bars

La table de Patrick Raingeard - Gastronomic restaurant, Michelin star

One bar in the main house and another one near by the swimming pool

Location

On a private peninsula on the water, beneath the cliff-top village of Eze. Traffic permitting, it’s about 15 minutes to Monte Carlo’s Place du Casino and half an hour to the Nice airport.
