Perched atop a pine-covered hill and overlooking the Mediterranean, La Réserve is a modern, tranquil retreat with a clean-lined, nearly Scandinavian look. The architect, Paris-based Jean-Michele Wilmotte, has worked with museums, including the Louvre and the Musée du Quai Branly, and achieves a similarly poised serenity here. Common spaces have crisp hardwood floors and walls of glass that overlook the sea and countryside. A muted palette—sable divans, violet pillows, soft gray armchairs—evoke a mood of perpetual dawn. In the guest rooms (there are 28 total, 19 of them suites, plus 12 villas), you’ll find platform beds, Hans Wegner chairs, huge floorplans and an absolute lack of clutter—all the better to contemplate the sea views (note that only suites and villas have terraces). Dining is a decidedly relaxed affair in the softly lit lounge or alfresco on the terrace; menus lean on southern French staples (think grilled sea bass or local roast lamb) with spa-approved holistic touches. Speaking of the spa: at 10,000 square feet, with 11 treatment rooms, it is really the center of the property, offering everything from Crème de la Mer beauty treatments to balneotherapy (bathing in mineral springs) to a weeklong boot camp of yoga, hikes and spa treatments. Booking early is highly recommended for any service at the spa.

It’s 90 minutes from the Nice airport and an hour from the Toulon airport. St. Tropez town is 15 minutes by car, and a four-minute shuttle ride to Pampelonne Beach.
