What We Think

Antique paintings in gilt frames and Hungarian parquet flooring? Check. Toile fabrics adorning every other surface? Check. A dreamy, Provincial color palette of olive greens and peony pinks? Check and check. La Bastide de Gordes is everything a Francophile could want from a country sojourn, including a full gourmet breakfast with every stay. We love the Superior Village Room for its flickering fireplace and an authentic 18th century secretary, and the Duke of Soubise Suite, which has a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, authentic lime painted walls and two (two!) bathrooms. While you’re here, be sure to stop in at the Sisley Spa, which was modeled after the circa 1148 Sénanque Abbey but houses amenities no Cistercian monk could dream up, including a hammam and sensory showers.

Thirsty. The antique-stocked bar would pamper even Marie Antoinette, who’d likely take her mixologist-perfected cocktail fireside.

There is nowhere on earth you’d rather be than the terrace at L’Orangerie, sipping champagne and watching the twilight unfurl, pink and dusky, over the Luberon valley. “Another glass?” your waiter asks. “Mais Oui.”
