What it is

A perfectionist’s bayside getaway, stocked with lush gardens and family-friendly amenities.

What it isn't

Far from Athens. You’re a mere 40 minutes from urban life, but a world away.

What we think

Onetime king of Athens, Aegeus, reportedly dove into this sea in ancient times, giving the water its name. The resort that now presides over the swath of land measures up to the iconic royal. Firstly: the architecture is idyllic, with arcaded buildings at every turn (decked by exultant bougainvillea, of course). Second, there appears to be a bottomless well of amenities, whether you want to lounge under a pergola by a seawater pool, hop on a private yacht to nearby coves and the Temple of Poseidon, or dance until you reach the point of exhaustion during their full moon parties on Cape Sounio beach. Speaking of beaches—there are two crescent shape options here for your enjoyment, stocked with gratis sunbeds, umbrellas, and the plushest of beach towels. You’ll also be shamelessly pampered at every turn, from the welcome drink upon your arrival to the personalized tour of the property (upon request).

You're here because

Rooms are enchanting, but far from a Grecian cliche. Even in the starter category, you can expect sculptural gilt chairs, artful light fixtures and a wood door dressed in nailhead trim.

The Moment

You are rarely awake early enough for complimentary hotel breakfasts, but then again, you’ve never had reason before. This one is worth beelining for as soon as the sun rises over the Aegean: it’s arguably the most abundant spread in the country, with a crepe and breakfast sushi station, just-made Greek doughnuts, housemade marmalades to top your local cheeses and fresh-baked bread, and most all of it organic and local. Really, if you don’t gain five pounds on this trip, you’ll be angry with yourself.

Restaurants & Bars

- CaSounio Restaurant - Open for breakfast and dinner, the resort's main restaurant serves delicious Greek and international cuisine. Breakfast features extensive hot and cold buffets with healthy and traditional options, while dinner offers tempting local and international specialties, perfectly timed with the sunset over Poseidon’s Temple.

- The Restaurant - Located on the rooftop terrace of the main building, this fine-dining restaurant boasts a unique view overlooking the wonderfully floodlit Temple of Poseidon at Sounio. Guests can savor a Greco-French menu designed by acclaimed chef Sakis Tzannetos.

- So Oriental - Known as being Sounio’s most funky venue—here guests can watch the Asian chef prepare fresh oriental delicacies or simply relax on one of the outdoor swing-beds which double as their dining table.

- Aegean Grill - Poolside venue offering a tempting range of salads, hot and cold starters and main courses, desserts, fruit and drinks throughout the day. For lazy, hazy days – guests can order a refreshing drink or snack to be served by their sun lounger.

- Yali - Fine seafood on the waterfront at Cape Sounio, offering fresh seafood, fish and summer specialties for a light lunch or a la carte dinner.

- Lounge Bar - Located on the ground floor and terraces of the main building, the Lounge Bar features comfy sofas and armchair for guests to enjoy a convivial evening atmosphere beside the water & fire fountains.
