The Reykjavik EDITION

Sleek Sea Star

What it is

This 253-room harborside hotel is an ode to Ian Schrager’s inimitable style, with a restaurant helmed by Iceland’s first Michelin-starred chef and an Icelandic spa complete with a thermal plunge pool and hammam.

What it isn't

Thirsty. The on-site watering holes include one devoted to local spirits and another gathered around an open-flame fireplace.

What we think

Doting service can be hard to find in Iceland, where the self-sufficient demeanor of Vikings still reigns. But you can prepare for a red carpet at the EDITION, thanks to its 24-hour room service, twice daily housekeeping, multilingual concierges, zippy free WiFi, valet parking…the list goes on. And even the “starter” Guest King rooms are opulent (if efficient, at 280 square feet). Included in each one: down-swaddled beds; a mosaic-lined rainfall shower; Le Labo toiletries; Bang & Olufsen speakers; and smart flatscreen TVs that stream all your addictive binges. If you’re traveling with a group, the 1,375-square-foot Penthouse is a worthy splurge, complete with a full kitchen, panoramic views from the ginormous living room and terrace, and flickering fireplace that’s the ultimate welcome home after a day on the fjords.

You're here because

The hotel has a 7th floor rooftop hangout spot that’s the perfect place to scan the sky for the Northern Lights at midnight.

The Moment

Chef Gunnar Karl Gislason garnered his first Michelin star at Dill, and something tells you he’ll earn one at Tides, too. One bite of your beetroot tartare with smoked lemon emulsion, puffed barley and horseradish, and you’re sent into outer orbit. Actually, who needs a star when you’re a meteor?

Restaurants & Bars

Tides - With an outdoor terrace, its own waterfront entrance, Tides offers modern Icelandic cuisine by Gunnar Karl Gíslason - the chef behind Dill, Reykjavik’s much-celebrated New Nordic Michelin-starred restaurant.

Lobby Bar - As with all EDITION hotels, the lobby is a dynamic, social space that subtly reveals a sense of place and sense of time.

Location

Set directly on the waterfront, a mere two blocks from the Mies van der Rohe award winning Harpa Concert Hall.
