Lacking in history. The first hideaway here was built back in 1912 for its wellness-inducing properties in the TB era.

By any measure, the mountains of the Dolomites are some of the most transfixing on the planet: as jagged and craggy as the Andes in Patagonia, with significantly more fondue per capita. Forestis has turned the alpine experience into something truly poetic, with jaw-dropping modern architecture and Instagrammable moments at every turn. Starter rooms here are serene and spare in a tidy 376 square feet—putting the focus on the forests out the window. We love the blonde wood walls and plush corner sofas in the Suites of the historic wing, but can’t help but recommend you book a Tower Suite: each one is 592 square feet and a total dream spring to life, thanks to an asymmetrical contemporary terrace with a panorama over the sawtooth Dolomites (a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and no wonder).

The spa is exquisitely beautiful, with a stone pool peering out on the peaks and treatments that take their cues from the surrounding landscape—including a pine body scrub and forest salt bath.

Juxtaposed against the floor to ceiling glass in the restaurant, the Dolomites are even more delightful: serrated and snow-dusted. But it’s this meal by Executive Chef Roland Lamprecht—including an Eisack Valley pickled brook trout—that you’ll be dreaming about for years to come.
