What we think

The Capri Palace is distinct from the rest of the island, both geographically and stylistically. Located in Anacapri, an arts-centric village on the other side of the mountain from Capri Town, it's a resort-like sanctuary away from the crowds. And rather than ceramic tiles or antiques, you'll find sleek white furniture and striking contemporary art. Even the smallest of the 69 rooms has a fabulous design, but seek out one of the art-themed suites (like the Warhol, whose private pool is tiled with colorful portraits of Mao). Other rooms are devoted to movie icons from Marilyn Monroe to Gwyneth Paltrow(!). The hotel is also known for its wellness spa, which has programs in the Mediterranean diet, posture and leg beauty and health.

The Moment

As you enter the hotel for the first time, you walk past "Shores of the Seas," an enormous white sculpture of fiberglass and marble that lines the entrance, interspersed with windows looking into the pool. It's a site-specific work that sets the tone for the artful stay to come.
