Capri Tiberio Palace
La Dolce Vita chic
What it is
A friendly and stylish boutique in the heart of Capri Town.
What it isn't
Grand or classically decorated.
What we think
First opened as a JW Marriott and now run by the same family that owns the J.K. Place Capri, the Tiberio Palace is refreshingly chic and modern without losing its sense of place. The bright and eclectic decor has a mid-century vibe, perked up with aqua blues and sea greens, that hearkens back to the island's Dolce Vita days. Each of the 46 rooms and suites is uniquely decorated with bright patterns and colors and eclectically chosen artifacts (there's even a fun Pan Am–themed suite devoted to the jet age). Not all rooms have balconies or great views, but the junior suites have a small garden complete with an outdoor shower. The location is central—in the heart of Capri Town, about an eight-minute walk from the main square. The hotel's only real drawback is its pool, which is small and mostly covered. But the two-story spa is one of the best on the island.
You're here because
You like the eclectic, cheerful style and central location, and don't plan to spend a lot of time lounging poolside.
The Moment
Sipping a cocktail at the Jacky Bar, ceiling fans swirling, the white baby grand piano tinkling under a wall studded with Borsalino hats, you briefly wonder, Am I in Havana? Casablanca? And then the setting sun reminds you: Ah, yes. Capri.
