Florence, Italy
Gallery Hotel Art
Art-centric boutique hotel in central Florence
What it is
A hip spot buzzing with young fashionistas.
What it isn't
Classic Italian luxury for a mature crowd.
What we think
Owned by the Ferragamo family, the Gallery Hotel Art was Florence’s first design hotel and is still a hub for art and fashion types who want to mingle with a young Florentine crowd. The Asian-inspired restaurant and bar, in particular, becomes a scene in the evenings, thanks to an innovative cocktail list. The contemporary white-and-neutral color scheme is unusual for Florence, and makes the perfect backdrop for the regular rotating exhibits of contemporary art. The 74 rooms stay true to the hip aesthetic, with ivory-colored walls, dark wood furniture and black-and-white framed photos on the walls; some have terraces with views over Florence’s rooftops. (In truth, the rooms could use a little updating.) The location is noteworthy: extremely central, but removed enough from busy street and foot traffic to achieve sense of peace and quiet.
