What it isn't

Poorly serviced. This is a Relais & Châteaux member (translation: the best of the best). Guest pampering include loaner mountain bikes, tee time bookings on their course, sailing to Gallinara, riding and booking in-room spa treatments.

What we think

Even in a place where storybook stays are everywhere, The Meridiana ranks. Guest rooms here are cinematic treasure troves of ornate window treatments, exposed beams, and scalloped details for a whiff of whimsy. We love the “starter” Classic Rooms for their 301 square foot floor plans complete with bistro tables and Juliet balconies that peer out on the manicured garden. If you’re not here often, the 645 square foot Deluxe Suite is truly worth a splurge, with its canopy bed, fireplace and private balcony overlooking the lagoon-like al fresco pool. While you’re here, don’t miss the pesto-making master class with the chef: it will change your life.

The Moment

The breakfasts here are like nothing you’ve ever seen—worth the trip alone. Housemade jam, breads piled high, just-squeezed tangerine juice, San Daniele ham, local cheeses, even London’s Fortnum & Mason tea. Come hungry.
