Lake Como, Italy
Grand Hotel Tremezzo
A Lake Como classic
What it is
Grand, indeed. No expense was spared in the making (and maintaining) of this 1910 Art Nouveau manse, with its Hermès-orange awnings overlooking Lake Como.
What it isn't
Hands-off. Prepare to be pampered, dahling.
What we think
If diving into Lake Como is a summer ritual here, then diving into this hotel’s floating pool (that’s right: it’s floating within the lake) is a full-on ceremony, complete with an adjacent champagne bar. Grand Hotel Tremezzo feels like a Belle Époque-period movie set, too delicious to be believed. Believe it. Yes, that private beach lined with daybeds—the only private beach on Lake Como—is yours for the frolicking. Yes, your room really does have a green marble bath overlooking the water. Yes, you can play tennis on a red clay court by the lake. You could request the recently opened rooftop suites, but we prefer the Suite Greta, where we can imagine Garbo herself tucking in for the night (because she did).
You're here because
You can’t always stay at Clooney and Amal’s place, and this ranks as a close second.
After a day spent wandering the 11th-century Castello di Vezio, you steal away to the hotel’s spa for a restorative black olive scrub in the Italian Lasa white marble hammam suite before watching the sun set over the Grigne Mountains from the spa’s infinity pool.
