Moltrasio, Lake Como
Passalacqua
Como’s Crown Jewel
Reservations at this property require credit card pre-authorization by the hotel 15 days before check-in. If authorization cannot be completed before check-in, the reservation will be released.
What it is
A circa 1787 villa turned megawatt 24 room lakeside hotel, with a panoramic swimming pool, an al fresco gym in an olive grove, abundant gardens and dishes curated entirely for you.
What it isn't
Lacking a spa. This one is particularly ornate—tucked in subterranean former vaults, with a steam room and sauna in rock-walled caves.
What we think
Passalacqua is your Lake Como fantasy sprung to life. Fanciful gilt woodwork, Venetian glass chandeliers that look like hard candy, green and yellow striped umbrellas happily flanking the pristine pool…is there anything better? Thankfully, all the grandeur extends to each and every guest room. Even the “starter” rooms at 400 square feet are equipped with courtyard views and headboards carved with gilt ribbons. To feel like Marie Antoinette on an Italian sojourn, book Passalacqua's 900 square foot Junior Suite, it has built-in bookcases and a barrel vaulted ceiling nearly worthy of the Sistine Chapel.
You're here because
You want to feel like royalty (but without the bad press and centuries-old stress).
The Moment
After yoga under the fragrant magnolia trees, you decide it’s time to get out onto the water…and hop aboard the hotel’s vintage taxi boat. Its name is Guimello, because of course it is.
Restaurants & Bars
The quintessential Italian meal is as much about cuisine as it is about Convivialità. Here, dining is a ritual meant to be celebrated and shared, in both the making and the partaking. Keeping the villa’s long history as a private residence alive, Passalacqua aspires to a ‘home away from home’ approach to dining that invites guests to choose when, where and what you eat. Our team is on hand to make your dining dreams come true: a candlelit dinner among the rosebushes, a picnic with the waves lapping at your feet or a pasta-making session before your family-style feast. There is always something happening in our kitchens; guests are encouraged to stop by and lend a hand or simply order what tickles your tastebuds, on or off the menu.
Location
Fronting Lake Como, Passalacqua is just a six minute drive from beloved 1980s botanical garden Il Giardino della Valle—where cheeky wooden sculptures dot the luscious grounds.
