Hotel Principe Di Savoia
A Dorchester Collection Hotel
What it is
The classic Milan landmark.
What it isn't
Ideally situated for sightseeing. The Duomo and the Galleria are a good 25 minutes by foot, but you’re well placed for shopping in the Brera and Porta Nuova districts.
What we think
Fashionistas and design aficionados don’t flock to the Principe because it showcases the latest trends or most cutting-edge looks. On the contrary, the Dorchester Collection hotel has a dedication to Old World elegance that makes it a perennial hive of activity among Milan’s best-dressed. The city’s grande dame since the 1920s, it underwent a 2009 renovation that retained and refined its Belle Epoque plushness. Rooms here are some of Milan’s most comfortable and classically gorgeous, with plush carpets, varnished woods, gilded mirrors and soft velvets; deluxe rooms have hand-painted wall frescoes. The top floor’s extensive spa and fitness center includes an indoor pool, and the blue crab carbonara at Acanto is just one of Chef Alessandro Buffolino’s innovative creations. But you’re most likely to bump into George Clooney or Madonna at one of the two bars: Il Salotto, the lobby lounge under Murano chandeliers, and the Principe Bar, the perfect setting for an early evening aperitivo.
You're here because
The glow of gilding and the polish of precious marbles call to you, as does the hotel’s preeminent history.
A treatment at the hotel’s Club 10 Fitness & Beauty Center has left you aglow as you return to your palatial room. You don a bathrobe from the closet, pop open a bottle of Deltetto Brut and flop back onto your king-sized cloud of a bed.
On the Piazza della Repubblica, bridging the Porta Nouva business district, the design neighborhood of Brera, and the Central Station.
