Portrait Milano

Storied Splendor

What it is

An intimate 73-room hideaway in a former seminary and two ultra-glam restaurants.

What it isn't

Aesthetically spartan. The hotel is tucked within the 32,000-square-foot Piazza del Quadrilatero, which echoes the grandeur of Venice’s iconic San Marco square.

What we think

Style is almost legally required in Milan, one of the world’s fashion epicenters. So it’s no surprise that the guest rooms at Portrait Milano are as exquisite as possible—with jewel toned color palettes, crisply tailored furnishings, and head-turning architectural details like cathedral ceilings…all of which might send the building’s former priestly inhabitants into a jealous tizzy. Here, even the Studio is a jaw-dropper, with its Italian-made furniture, walk-in-closet and Carrara marble-lined bathroom. The Suite Garden is well worth a splurge, thanks to its private library and living and dining space within the 680 square foot floor plan. If you’re traveling with the kids, we can’t get enough of the 1,200-square-foot Two-Bedroom Family Suite Garden—it feels like your own flat, far from the madding crowds.

The Moment

Ensconced in your rounded velvet banquette at an outpost of MonteCarlo’s Beefbar, you’re not sure what is more addictive: the cocoa souffle (which arrived in a gleaming copper dish) or the sight of so many gorgeous locals out on the town.

Restaurants & Bars

Bar & Restaurant - All-day dining options and drinks are served in our stylish bar and restaurants which offer a view of the hidden garden

Location

In the shi-shi quadrilatero della moda district, where fashionistas flock. Three blocks away: the Galleria d’Arte Moderna, where art by Gauguin and Cezanne is hung in an 18th-century manse.
