Hotel Eden Rome

A Dorchester Collection Hotel

What it is

One of Rome’s eternal grande dames, recently reopened after a major renovation.

What it isn't

A dusty Roman Holiday throwback; this isn’t a place to seek out nostalgia in the flesh.

What we think

A one-time favorite of Federico Fellini, King Alfonso XIII, and the Galitzine princes, the splendidly Belle Époque Hotel Eden was fully restored and refreshed in 2017 courtesy of the Sultan of Brunei, who added it to the good company of his five-star Dorchester Collection properties (The Dorchester in London; the Beverly Hills Hotel). As at its sister hotels, the Eden’s classic details are at once amplified and tempered by a contemporary designer’s hand (in this case, two designers, Bruno Moinard and Jouin Manku). This translates to high, corniced ceilings, rich fabrics and bountiful Italian marble married with modern, simplified embellishments, intentionally uncluttered surfaces and every 21st-century necessity, from free Wi-Fi to in-room iPads and Bluetooth-enabled speakers. The renovation reduced the number of rooms from 121 to 98, resulting in more generous proportions, especially in the top-tier suites. Much like the redesign, the Eden attracts a crowd that is stylish and dignified, not edgy. The hotel now has Italy’s only spa with facials devised by Sonya Dakar (a favorite of Gwyneth Paltrow), as well as two rooftop restaurants helmed by chef Fabio Ciervo. The casual Il Giardino, where breakfast is served, has an emphasis on healthy fare. At the elegant La Terrazza, Ciervo turns dinner into a delicious spectacle, amping up Italian classics with luxe ingredients, like rare pepper from Madagascar. Both restaurants boast panoramic views stretching from San Pietro to Piazza Venezia.

You're here because

You want to be in the center of Rome’s sites, in an atmosphere of sophisticated opulence and mindful privacy.

The Moment

The Eternal City is reminiscent of cooling embers as the sun dips below the skyline. The domes and spires stand out, glowing in the last caught rays; the flat, tiled roofs fade into shadows.
