Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese
Plush Palazzo
What it is
An ultra-luxe 19th century palazzo revamped by Jean-Philippe Nuel with exquisite interiors, a 7th floor rooftop bar and restaurant, high-tech gym, and more.
What it isn't
Equipped with its own spa. But their “Roman Bath” menu of scented bath salts is all you need for your best steep ever.
What we think
With its perch overlooking Villa Borghese—the expansive former estate-turned-park of the Borghese family, which is now home to Bernini’ David, among other sculptural eye candy—Sofitel Roma is among the most beautifully oriented hotels in town. But its rooms would satisfy you even if it was located in the outer suburbs. Starter Superior Rooms may be intimate at 236 square feet, but what they lack in size they make up for in abundant luxuries, including Bose sound systems, Diptyque toiletries, lighting and climate you can control at the push of a button, a pillow menu and Sofitel MyBed, Illy coffee maker for Italian espresso, marble-lined rain shower, tea from Betjamen & Barton…shall we go on? For an even more jaw-dropping stay, we recommend the Premium Luxury Room with Juliet Balcony or the ultimate splurge: the 602 square foot Suite with Panoramic Terrace and Outdoor Jacuzzi, where you can sip your negronis from your private hot tub overlooking the red terracotta rooftops of the ancient cityscape (bonus: the suite has a second bathroom, making it ideal for larger groups).
You're here because
You love little more than a rooftop bar, and this one has what’s arguably the best view (and the best Aperol spritz) in town.
The Moment
Chef Giuseppe D’Alessio has been making pasta since he was a child at home cooking with his mom, which shows: every bite at the hotel’s Settimo Roman Cuisine & Terrace is better and more buttery than the last, especially the tonnarelli with pecorino and black pepper. Your only concern? Whether you have enough room for dessert: the ricotta and local sour cherry tart is calling your name.
Restaurants & Bars
Settimo - a refined rooftop restaurant and bar, with shades of green and an enchanting view over Rome
Location
The Southern corner of Villa Borghese, a two second walk from Villa Medici and fifteen minute stroll from the circa 1762 Trevi Fountain.
