Storfjord Hotel
62°NORD Hotels
What it is
A log lodge in the Sunnmøre Alps with a living roof, locavore restaurant, and a spa and sauna tucked in a dense and dreamy forest.
What it isn't
Boring. Experiences offered for guests here are Only-in-Norway, bucket-list type stuff, including cruising through the fjords to helicoptering over the snow-capped mountains as if in a scene from HBO’s Succession.
What we think
The glass-walled and somewhat cold interiors that have come to epitomize latter day Nordic design are nowhere to be found at Storfjord, which has all the alpine charm of a fairytale. Even the starter room is pure “hygge” (coziness), with its exposed beam walls, canopy bed, and thoughtful touches, including coffee and tea makers, yoga mats and a desk for jealousy-inducing Zoom calls. (Ask for one with a terrace if you know what’s good for you.) We particularly love the Corner Suite ginormous 516-square-foot floor plan, a gas fireplace tucked between two mountain-view windows, and a sumptuous king bed you’ll never want to get out of. While you’re here, be sure to ask to try the Storfjord Brygg—a.k.a. the hotel’s own beer, made just for them by a nearby brewery.
You're here because
Guests are encouraged to borrow walking poles and fishing rods (gratis) to seize the day, Norway-style. Snowshoes, kayaks, bikes and even small fishing boats are available to rent for a fee.
The Moment
There is local food, and then there is the menu at Storfjord Hotel….where Chef Ingeborg plucks the freshest fare from fjord and farm before setting her menu daily. The only thing better than a Michelin star? Watching one on the rise.
