Porto, Portugal
The Yeatman
Relais & Châteaux collection
What it is
A garden-flanked hotel inspired by wine: complete with a wine spa, a two Michelin-starred restaurant, and two infinity pools overlooking the Douro River.
What it isn't
Just for oenophiles. Kids get a red carpet rolled out here, too…with a kids club (ages 3-16), doting babysitting services and even a treasure hunt for a 1350-year-old olive tree.
What we think
Founded by the Yeatman family—British merchants who’ve done business on these shores since 1838—this hotel has a warm, welcoming feel beloved by all ages. Adjacent to centuries-old port wine cellars, the hotel is a wine-lover’s dream—up to and including suites with canopy beds made out of actual oak wood wine barrels. But even the “starter” room category here is charming and tricked out with luxe touches, including Egyptian cotton bedding, a private terrace or balcony and curated wine artifacts. To truly live large, book the aptly-named Bacchus Suite on the 9th floor, which has a fireside round soaking tub; fountain gurgling on the private terrace; wood floors; and…a remote controlled rotating bed that’s so much more stylish than it sounds.
You're here because
You love dining at Michelin starred restaurants, and this one—The Yeatman Gastronomic Restaurant—has a terrace with panoramic views over the glimmering river.
The Moment
You love nothing more than a glass of red at the end of the day, so the fact that the spa offers exfoliating treatments made from vines themselves has you tickled. Today, however, you’re indulging in a red wine grape bath: what’s more “When in Porto” than steeping in a barrel?
