Stockholm, Sweden
Hotel Diplomat
Harborside haven
What it is
A fourth-generation, family-owned former residential palace turned Art Nouveau luxury hotel with Scandinavian touches.
What it isn't
An ultra-modern hostel or an overly stuffy and dated Old World abode.
What we think
Bright, airy rooms, some with views of Stockholm Harbor, are housed within this palatial property that’s been operating as a hotel since 1966. The overall look is timeless, with all 130 rooms specially designed to blend the hotel’s Art Nouveau roots and contemporary Scandinavian designs. No detail here is overlooked; even the linens are from the hotel’s own collection. Those with an appreciation for art will love finding all the notable Swedish artworks dispersed throughout the property, and there’s often a rotating exhibition of contemporary photography in the first floor lounge. The bar, T/bar, and the Belle Epoque-evoking cocktail bar upstairs, are perpetually brimming with conversations.
You're here because
You want to stay somewhere that’s both chic and classic, and that pays attention to the little things that matter most when you travel, and where you can mix and mingle with fellow travelers and locals alike.
The Moment
Afternoon tea with a view of the harbor, with your pick of the classics or, for those wanting something a bit different, a more healthful version that’s vegan and gluten-free.
