Geneva, Switzerland
Four Seasons Hotel Des Bergues
Lakeside Icon
What it is
An 1834 grande dame on Lake Geneva, with Michelin-starred restaurants, a rooftop Mont Blanc spa, indoor pool, and topnotch service.
What it isn't
Just for adults. Kiddos have five star service, too—with dedicated children’s menus, pint sized robes, milk and cookies at check-in, welcome gifts, and more.
What we think
If Marie Antoinette ever took off on a Swiss vacay, this is exactly where she’d stay. Guest rooms designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon are every bit as ornate as what she’d expect at Versailles, but fitted with all the modern luxuries a Queen could ever want. We love the 344-square-foot Deluxe Room, with its gorgeous damask wallcovering, tasseled draperies, and Louis XVI-style chairs, and the fact that it’s color palette was inspired by Lake Geneva itself. For an over-the-top sumptuous experience, book the 1,300-square-foot Royal Suite, with its canopied bed, intricate gold-gilt mouldings, private terrace, library and sitting room, and panorama over the water. Don’t miss departing from all the rococo scenery for a night of modern Japanese fusion at the hotel’s rooftop Izumi restaurant, where you can tuck into lobster tacos and passionfruit ceviche in a thoroughly modern space.
You're here because
The spa is wonderfully high-tech, and includes Japanese infrared saunas and cellular lift facials.
The Moment
Under the glittering crystal chandeliers of Il Lago, the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant, even a humble PB&J would taste divine. But tonight’s dishes are as artful as the museum-worthy gallery hung on the walls, including a Swiss rack of lamb with onion tarte tatin and parmesan ice cream. Swoon!
