Pontresina, Switzerland
Grand Hotel Kronenhof
Storied Stunner
What it is
A circa 1848 riverfront hideaway with 112 dazzlingly ornate or sleek and modern rooms, a 22,000 square foot spa, and four highly delicious bars and restaurants.
What it isn't
Open all year. But the property helps you live your best life in winter and summer with a host of bucket list worthy activities, including hiking the Upper Engadin valleys with goats (summer) and bobsledding with the best (winter).
What we think
From the day it opened its doors in 1848, this hotel was a scene stealer, thanks to its Neo-Baroque architecture that spared no expense. Centuries later the glitterati are still enamored with it, and for good reason. Even the starting room category, Standard Classic Double Rooms, are well sized at 290 square feet, and fitted with sumptuous touches: including marble-lined bathrooms and carved wood furniture. If you’re not often in Switzerland, though, go for a suite; the 602-square foot Valentine Suite has sculptural barrel vaulted ceilings, a spa-like bathroom sheathed in gray marble, and walls paneled in wood from the hotel’s own Engadin Valley.
You're here because
You’re bringing your mini-mi along, and the hotel is famously tot-friendly, with a kids club (3 year olds and up), child menus, and babysitting upon request.
The Moment
Generations of people have put the treat in spa treatment here, and it’s time you did too. Today’s bliss? An herbal body scrub and Lomi Lomi massage. Aaaah.
