St. Moritz, Switzerland
Suvretta House
Ski Queen
What it is
A storied (and seasonal) 1912 grande dame with 171 pampering rooms and 10 suites, plus a Gault Millau-ranked chef, indoor pool and sauna, and curated activities.
What it isn't
Just for grown-ups. They’ve rounded up a ton of storybook fun for little ones, too, including a Kiddy Club, children’s ski school and even a Teddy Club restaurant where kids can dine with their stuffed animals.
What we think
Everyone from Gregory Peck to Evita stayed here, but it’s not resting on its celebrity laurels. Perhaps you’d like to order Siberian caviar and a croque monsieur from room service at 2 a.m. Or have flowers delivered to your suite during dinner. Or get a real, human wake-up call in the morning. Your wish is the staff’s command at Suvretta House, where service is so wonderful the hotel has been a cherished retreat for generations. Guest rooms are traditionally appointed, with gleaming wood furniture and tassel and fringe details at every turn. They start at 320 square feet; if you’re traveling with a group or the family, we recommend booking the 484 square foot Double Grand Deluxe, which has a separate living area and beams cozily studding the ceiling overhead. While winter activities are top notch (and include an on-site ice rink and an ice curling field), come back in summer to hit the trails with their loaner bikes or picnic in the Engadine Valley.
You're here because
The hotel is a ski-in, ski-out property with its own private ski lift that also happens to look like a fairytale castle. Win, win.
The Moment
The only thing you’re finding more divine than Grand Restaurant’s ornately carved oak paneling are the dishes before you by chef Fabrizio Zanetti: lobster risotto with champagne, and quail with duck liver and winter truffles.

Location
Just over two hours drive from Zurich, though most visitors arrive by train. The hotel is also about a mile from Lake St. Moritz—which looks like a particularly cinematic scene from The Sound of Music sprung to life.
