What it isn't

A frenemy of the environment. Sustainability is a huge emphasis of Le Grand; the hotel has everything from hydropower to a soap-recycling program that helps the needy.

What we think

Even the word “Gstaad” evokes timeless glamor: tucked high in the Alps, this Swiss ski town was a regular haunt of everyone from Princess Diana to Jackie Kennedy. If they were with us today, we have no doubt that they’d book this hotel for their next ski bunny adventures. Rooms in the starter category—fittingly named “Chic Rooms”—are delightfully designed, with delicate and warm mixed patterns and thoughtful amenities (such as pillow menus, Nespresso machines, and ethically-made Bamford toiletries). We love the 730-square-foot Suite Chalets, with their fireplaces and separate living spaces. But we especially love that every guest is treated like a V. V. I. P. (very very important person), with pampering that includes a welcome drink at check-in; over the top breakfast buffet; transfers from the train station; and all the spa facility access you could ever want.

After stepping foot in the Thermal Oasis, where 17 zones include an ice fountain and steam bath, you know this is no ordinary spa. But it’s your spell in the flower-dotted hammam and goat’s milk and honey facial that sends you into outer orbit.
