Four Seasons Hampshire

Estate of Excellence

What it is

A 500 acre, 18th-century Georgian manor newly reborn for today, with a topnotch Equestrian Centre, spa and infinity pool, canal cruise and treetop adventures.

What it isn't

Just for anglophile grown-ups. Kids are doted upon, with a small de facto water park, Sharkie’s Reef, and Hampshire Kids for All Seasons Program.

What we think

While Jane Austen wrote that “a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife,” she might update it today to read that he “must be in want of a stay at Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire.” Because this is the type of place that the gentry dream about: equipped with everything from clay-pigeon shooting, falconry, horseback riding and a ballroom to 24-hour room service and multilingual concierges for your last-minute reservations in Beijing. Newly redesigned guest rooms are camera-ready, with antique-inspired furnishings paired with peppy, colorful accessories. Ask for a 485-square-foot Mews Deluxe Room (housed in the 18th-century stable black, with a marble bathroom that’s not horsing around), or the 2,240-square foot Royal Suite, with its own terrace overlooking the verdant estate grounds.

You're here because

You always hop across the pond jetlagged, and the spa’s Neom Sleep massage is devoted to encouraging “perfect sleep.”

The Moment

You love each one of the hotel’s dining options, but the aptly named Wild Carrot is unequivocally your favorite, especially after your morning hike. Today’s locavore luncheon: a glazed leg of lamb with pickled shallots and Eton Mess (with Hampshire-grown strawberries) for dessert.

Location

Two miles from the village of Dogmersfield (population: 279), a mere hour from London and just a 35 minute drive from Heathrow Airport. 21 minutes away: Jane Austen’s house, now a museum home to her actual writing desk.
