Mayfair, London
45 Park Lane
Smart, Art Deco–styled boutique
What it is
A contemporary boutique property on Hyde Park, with a sexy Art Deco feel.
What it isn't
A pop-and-circumstance grande dame.
What we think
Consider 45 Park Lane as the free-wheeling, contemporary younger sister of the dowager Dorchester Hotel, just across the street. The look is glamorous, even sexy, all marble, wood paneling and chrome with Art Deco lines. And the mood is intimate, thanks the small number of rooms, the personal host assigned to each guest, and the relatively compact lobby. Rooms —all with views of Hyde Park—have a 1940’s feel, with dark woods, crushed velvet, and black-and-white photos of film stars above the headboards. The handsome bar, on the upper level of the two-story lobby, exudes a similar sophistication, as does CUT, the Wolfgang Puck–run steak restaurant in a room adorned with Damien Hirst paintings. There’s no spa, but guests can use the fitness and spa services of the Dorchester next door. And Hyde Park, with its running trails, bridle paths and tennis courts, is just across the street.
You're here because
You want the personal service and intimacy of a boutique hotel, but one that matches your sophisticated taste.
The Moment
Ensconced in the dark wood paneling of the bar, you sip your expertly shaken martini as the server sets down a plate of Kobe beef sliders.
