Mayfair, London

Claridge's

London’s Art Deco classic

What it is

One of London’s traditional top-tier hotels

What it isn't

Trendy or homey—though it's always in style

What we think

The gem of Mayfair, the late 19th-century brick building housing Claridge's had an Art Deco overhaul in the Roaring Twenties that created interiors opulent enough for Gatsby—or (in real life) for Mariah Carey, Mick Jagger and Brad Pitt. The checkered marble floors, fluted pilasters and twinkling chandeliers in the public areas are replaced by a more subdued look in the 203 guest rooms upstairs. These are individually decorated but share a design approach that's above all handsome and thoughtful. Claridge’s was the first hotel in London to showcase a celebrity chef, but as Gordon Ramsay's star faded, he was replaced in 2013 by Fera, for which Cumbria-born chef Simon Rogan was awarded a Michelin star. The Foyer and Reading Room serve afternoon tea and intimate meals in Art Deco surroundings, and tipplers can sip on craft cocktails beyond the original Lalique door of The Fumoir or at the famed Claridge’s Bar.

You're here because

You want the classic London hotel: traditional opulence and unparalleled service.

The Moment

The complimentary shoeshine left your heels gleaming. As you click across the black and white marble of the lobby, you admire the tangled glass spirals of Dale Chihuly's chandelier.

Location

The heart of Mayfair, amidst designer boutiques and swank restaurants. Grosvenor Square is a block away. The drive to Heathrow is just over 45 minutes.
