Mayfair, London
COMO Metropolitan London
Still the height of boutique hotel chic
What it is
A design-forward boutique hotel with an emphasis on wellness.
What it isn't
A paparazzi-stalked hot spot. The vibe and clientele have matured since the nightlife-focused early years.
What we think
COMO Metropolitan London has consistently attracted the style set since it opened in 1997, but the hotel's overall sensibility has evolved. The sophisticated boutique property hews to its designer roots while catering to a more levelheaded crowd—inside the glass-and-granite 11-story tower overlooking Hyde Park, the formerly white-on-white lobby has been softened with walnut accents and green carpets. Upstairs, the 144 rooms and suites have huge windows that run nearly to the floor, allowing postcard-perfect views. The spaces are vast and uncluttered, with honey-toned furniture of walnut and sycamore. There's an increased emphasis on wellness—a hallmark of the COMO brand—with yoga and other classes, a holistic spa and a 24-hour gym. Guests can retreat to the spa and wellness retreat, offering a full range of holistic Asian therapies in addition to yoga and a fully-equipped gym. Each room includes a yoga mat and complimentary in-room yoga and meditation programming. 19 two-bedroom luxury Residences offer full kitchens and living space perfect for families or long stays.
