Kimpton Fitzroy London

Artful Grandeur

What it is

An sumptuously designed 334-room hotel tucked within a landmarked 1898 terracotta building, with four buzzing restaurants and bars (including one by a pair of Michelin-starred chef brothers), a gym, cafe and doting service.

What it isn't

Lacking in perks. In-room amenities range from yoga mats and Ruark bluetooth speakers to Nespresso machines, tea kettles and even a “tuck box” filled with comped snacks, coffee and tea you can indulge in at your leisure.

What we think

Bloomsbury, London, is iconic for its intellectual denizens—and has been since the British Museum broke ground here in 1759. (Later, Virginia Woolf, E.M. Forster, and their literary compatriots, the Bloomsbury Group, hung out here and popularized the neighborhood’s smarty-pants reputation). So it tracks that this architecturally ornate hideaway complete with turrets—now a Kimpton—has put a focus on intelligent design and amenities. Guest rooms were carefully curated to include welcoming touches that range from waterfall showers to four post beds with Kit Miles throw pillows and billowing canopies. Solo travelers will be perfectly cozy in the 172-square foot City Single rooms, with their custom twin beds and tile-lined bathrooms; we particularly love the historic Queen Bed Premium Park View option for their soaring ceilings and walls of windows peering out on the neighborhood. For “A Room with a View” Forster would appreciate, the One King Bed Fitzroy Suite with Park View is a must, with its overlook of Russell Square.

You're here because

Kimpton is famous for treating guests—human and four-legged alike—as old friends. You love their gratis champagne at social hour, loaner Raleigh bikes, 24-hour concierge and room service, and so much more.

The Moment

Brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin have earned Michelin stars for their foodie wizardry, but you weren’t expecting just how fabulous your meal would be tonight at Galvin Bar and Grill. Ensconced in your velvet banquette under an intricately carved ceiling, the only thing more delicious than the Yorkshire rhubarb Eton mess and ginger shortbread before you is the atmosphere.

Restaurants & Bars

Galvin Bar & Grill - by Michelin-starred brothers, Chris & Jeff Galvin. The Galvin brothers are taking a modern-day approach to the British bar and grill with a menu that focuses on ethically sourced produce. While rooted in British cooking, the menu will not be dedicated to traditional dishes, instead, drawing on other cultures to reflect the diversity of modern Britain.

Fitz’s - named after Charles Fitzroy Doll, the original architect of Kimpton Fitzroy London. The plush, glamorous cocktail den has an air that’s electric with possibility

Burr & Co - Nestled on the corner of Bernard Street and leafy Russell Square, Burr & Co. is a coffeehouse by day and wine bar by night.

Palm Court - With a soaring glass ceiling that floods the room with light, comfortable clusters of seating and lots of greenery, Palm Court is the laid-back luxurious center of the hotel. Whether it’s a cup of tea in the morning, a snack in the afternoon or a glass of Champagne in the evening, this social hub has a constant buzz, filled with hotel guests and outside visitors alike.

Location

One block from The British Museum in the beating heart of Bloomsbury. Walk five blocks east to see the Charles Dickens Museum, where you can ogle the author’s manuscripts in the Georgian townhouse where he lived while penning Oliver Twist, the Pickwick Papers, and more.
